Holidays As Advanced Yoga Practice 🙌
Oh, the holidays. Such a ripe time to practice the deeper dimensions of Yoga. From Patanjali's Yoga Sutra 2:3 we learn of the 5 kleshas or the 5 root causes of our suffering. And dang, they are an eye-opener because not a single one is somebody else. No, the kleshas are deeper than that, the are our responses to other people, situations and things. Those people, situations and things that can feel really good to blame for our hard feelings.
The holidays are a time when people often come together and therein lies great potential for joy as well as great potential for suffering. The two kleshas the holidays really stir up are raga and dvesha or attachment and aversion. Attachment causes our suffering when we desire something to be a…
Talkin' About A Revolution ✊
I hope that you're all taking refuge in your practice these days! This feels like a time in history where the inner resources our practices of yoga and mediation can provide are more valuable than ever. Consider that not only are we personally impacted by these fruits of practice but how we move through the world, engage with our communities and teach by example are too. I won't lie, some days I feel myself sliding towards despondency and despair. What's the point? In those dark times, I have to remind myself to play the LONG GAME and find the purpose and the teaching in that which weighs me down and look closely at what I'm putting into the world today. In Yoga, cycles or ages run anywhere from 432,000 years (Kali…
Newness on the Horizon! ✨
Somebody once told me "September is the 2nd January of the year" and apparently it's true because I've never forgotten it and feel the spirit of a new cycle beginning every time September rolls around. With school beginning again at all levels, it's hard to not get swept up in the energy of possibility and expansion! The last couple of continuing education trainings I've taught have been extraordinary - I haven't seen this level of hunger for learning before and it THRILLS me to no end. The more we know, the greater service you may be to others and I've come to realize, I want nothing more than that!
This season I've started something new: strength training! Eventually our bodies adapt to that which we do the most so it was…

My talk is on one of my all-time favorite topics, the 5 Koshas or layers of consciousness, and I explain what they are and offer practices and tips for how to increase your awareness and capacity to experience each of the koshas and how this journey brings us into deeper connection with the essence of who we are

If You Don't Run, You Rust 🚘
I just got back from 2 nights of Pearl Jam in Seattle and more than ever, I feel Tom Petty's words "If you don't run, you rust." The guys in Pearl Jam are all in their 50s and continue to hone their craft and give their EVERYTHING - in other words, they've kept running all these years and show no sign of rusting
This reminds me of something I frequently say in Teacher Trainings - "Whatever you do a lot of, you're getting good at, whether you want to or not." That goes for the progressive behaviors we seek more of in our lives AND the regressive patterns that are running under our consciousness radars.
I have a few things coming up that seek to keep you running - one is a workshop…
